Unique Features: At the end of May 2010, Allied Mechanical was added to the Design/Build team assembled by Erhardt Construction and Amway to relocate manufacturing facilities from Lakeview California to Ada Michigan.

Nutrilite powered supplements are Amway’s No. 1 selling product. This project objective was to remodel and add to an existing warehouse, and convert it into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. While this was happening, the existing manufacturing facility in California needed to stay operating. Amway’s production engineering department took advantage of the move to reengineer the whole manufacturing process.

The project contains many class 100,000 clean rooms for processing the powders that are subject to strict temperature and humidity control. The facility was designed to operate 24/7 and faced many different environmental conditions. Allied was required to hire a validation contractor to review the performance of the clean rooms and certify that they performed to the design criteria.

As the project neared completion, several production lines were relocated from California to Ada for initial startup of the facility. They had to be removed from an operating facility under GMP conditions, cleaned and transported to the Ada Site for reinstallation. Once productions validation in Ada commenced, all work in the facility was subject to GMP conditions.
