3D Laser Scanning

SCANNING

What is 3D Laser Scanning?

3D laser scanning is an advanced technology that utilizes laser beams to create highly detailed and accurate three-dimensional representations of physical objects or environments within the construction industry. Our laser scanners capture precise measurements and data points to the millimeter creating a complete point cloud of the scanned area and providing accurate as-built documentation. In construction, this technology is particularly valuable for capturing the existing conditions of buildings, sites, or infrastructure with remarkable detail. Contractors, engineers, and architects can use the gathered data to create comprehensive models, assess spatial relationships, identify potential clashes, and streamline the design and construction processes. The efficiency and accuracy of 3D laser scanning contribute significantly to project planning, documentation, and overall project success.

WHY INVEST IN LASER SCANNING

Benefits of 3D Laser Scanning

Precision

3D laser scanning provides highly accurate measurements and detailed data, ensuring precision in capturing existing conditions of sites.

Efficiency

The technology allows for the swift and efficient collection of vast amounts of data, reducing the time required for surveying and documentation while also cutting back on human error from traditional as-built documentation processes.

Clash Detection

3D laser scanning helps identify potential clashes or conflicts in the design phase, allowing for timely adjustments and avoiding issues during construction.

Documentation

The detailed point cloud data serves as a valuable documentation resource, providing an accurate record of as-built conditions for future reference.

Cost Savings

By minimizing errors and streamlining workflows, 3D laser scanning contributes to cost savings throughout the construction project’s lifecycle.

Time-Saving

With only one visit to a site our team can capture rapid data collection, speeding up the overall project timeline and enabling quicker decision-making and project completion.

Adaptability

The scanned data can be easily shared among project teams through cloud based servers, supporting collaboration 24/7/365.

SITE SCANNING

3D Laser Scanning Process

Project Planning

The project planning entails identifying the scope and objectives, determining the specific areas or structures to be scanned, defining the required level of detail and accuracy, and developing a scanning strategy that considers factors such as equipment placement and scan positions.

Site Preparation

This step involves ensuring safety protocols for personnel and equipment on the jobsite. We then establish a coordinate system using control points for accurate georeferencing, and clear scanning areas of obstacles or obstructions.

Data Acquisition

During data acquisition, it’s important to scan the desired areas from different angles to ensure comprehensive coverage of the site or structure. Additionally, verifying the quality of the acquired data in real-time and making adjustments as needed is crucial for accurate results.

Data Processing

During data processing, the collected point cloud data is transferred to a computer for processing. Specialized software is then utilized to align and register the data into a cohesive, accurate point cloud, followed by applying filtering and cleaning processes to remove noise or unwanted artifacts.

Unlimited Access

Customers are provided with unlimited access to generate reports and documentation based on the results of the 3D laser scanning. Additionally, the completed point cloud from the 3D laser scan is sent over to the customer for them to have lifetime access to.

What can you get from a 3D laser scan?

  • Permanent access to point cloud
