OVERVIEW
Project Summary
Situated at the core of WMU’s Parkview Campus, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences boasts a sprawling 343,000-square-foot structure, completed in the autumn of 2003. This $72.5 million state-of-the-art academic edifice stands as the university’s largest, characterized by two expansive two-story brick wings, each exceeding 600 feet, linked by a central glass hub. Comprising the engineering complex are two integrated parking ramps, a Paper Coating Pilot Plant inaugurated in 2003, and an energy resource center, all integral components of the Parkview Campus.
Located just three miles south of WMU’s main Kalamazoo campus, the 265-acre campus also hosts a Business Technology and Research Park, recognized as a Michigan SmartZone and home to ten companies specializing in life sciences, information technology, and advanced engineering. Within the facility, seven computer teaching labs, 75 research and teaching laboratories, and various adaptable classroom and lecture spaces cater to diverse academic needs. Noteworthy amenities include student-focused study lounges and breakout rooms, fostering collaborative engineering projects. The facility is equipped with wireless computing capabilities and extensive hardwiring to support high-end computing demands and interactive instruction.
