This $600M state-of-the-art paper plant, known as the Graphics Package Bronco Project, was built from scratch, with construction starting in September 2019 and the first product produced in January 2022. Expected to yield 500,000 tons annually, it’s the largest project in Kalamazoo in years. Despite the compressed schedule, the project was completed within 12 months of the bulk of mechanical, electrical, and equipment installations beginning in January 2021. Challenges included procuring $7M in materials amidst rising prices, increasing fabrication capacity, and managing congestion in the 350,000 sq ft space. Despite these challenges, quality control remained high, with no major injuries among the 200,000 AMS hours dedicated to the project. The endeavor not only strengthened the company but also unified it and positioned it well for the future. It’s a vital project for the local economy, promising a lasting impact on the community.
